Safeguard Ventures, LLC secured the rights to an innovative patent that prevents chainsaw users from serious injury due to the guidebar kicking back when improperly used or when foreign objects in the wood are encountered. These injuries are catastrophic with potential for loss of limbs or life.
It was such an accident 15 years ago that prompted Myron Cain, a resident of Coos County, Oregon, to develop a system that prevented kickback injuries.
Cain’s mechanical inclinations and creativity resulted in the development of a moveable safety bar that rests over the moving chain that prevents the “kickback” from injuring the chainsaw user. Cain had the device patented and proceeded to sell his invention to city government agencies and fire departments.
Safeguard became interested in Cain’s kickback guard after reviewing the 10+ years of field testing, sales data and user testimonials from organizations like the City of Coos Bay, the City of North Bend, Central Lincoln People’s Utility District, Weyerhauser Corporation as well as several fire departments.
Safeguard realized that there existed a large market for a kickback safety device and subsequently purchased the patent from Myron Cain. Safeguard has since made major modifications and enhancements to the kickback guard (patent pending in US, Canada, Europe, Mexico and Japan) which it has branded the “Centurion™.”
