PORTLAND, OR
-- April 23, 2004 -- Safeguard Ventures, LLC introduces The
Centurion™ chainsaw safety device, an ultra-light, solid-steel
accessory that helps protects against chainsaw kickback injuries.
Kickback accidents* account for 85 percent of all reported chainsaw
injuries, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. These
injuries can result in loss of limb, or even life, to the chainsaw
operator.
The Centurion, constructed of a
solid-steel alloy, provides a barrier between the operator and the
cutting chain. The spring-loaded guard lies naturally against the log,
pivoting up and down as the cuts are being made. This allows the
operator to undercut logs or handle routine chainsaw jobs without fear
of kickback and greater piece of mind.
Available in two lengths—"long" 18-22
inches and "short" 14-16 inches—the Centurion attaches in minutes to
most popular makes and models of chainsaws. The lightweight, two-piece
chainsaw accessory, weighs approximately one pound, and includes the
spring loaded guard, mounting hardware, User Guide and warranty.
Designed for both commercial use and
individual consumer, the Centurion was first developed and marketed
over ten years ago to fire departments and utility companies. Although
some of the original devices are still in use, Safeguard re-engineered
the safety guard to make it lighter, stronger, easier to use, and more
compatible with today’s lighter and more powerful chainsaws.
Among the innovations are:
-
Handle grip lever for safer, easier
operation
-
Spring-loaded movement for changing
the guard’s position in various applications
-
Light weight, powder-coated steel
alloy coating for durability and longevity
-
Angled, rubberized tip for easier
undercutting and better visibility of the end of the bar
According to Safeguard president,
Michael Shenker, “There’s nothing on the market like the Centurion for
protecting the chainsaw operator in the event of a kickback accident.
Our early users confirm that the guard gives them peace-of-mind and
improves their efficiency. As we say, ‘It only needs to work once, to
make a difference.’”
Manufacturer’s suggested retail price is
$39.95. In addition, quantity discounts may be available. The
Centurion can be ordered via Safeguard’s website at
www.safeguardventures.com or by phone at 1-888-531-9502.

*Kickback occurs when the cutting chain
gets pinched in the cut, or hits a knot or foreign object in the wood.
When the speeding chain stops instantly, the saw can pitch back
violently out of the cut and back toward the operator causing serious,
life-threatening injuries. Manufacturers understand the seriousness of
the problem, and have responded with safety features, but kickback has
yet to be eliminated.
